"Shrooms"
The Portobella (Agaricus bisporus) name means beautiful door. I'm not sure why. I'm not sure why or how they decided to call a mushroom this.The mushroom’s cap can be up to 6 inches wide and are the same species of mushroom as White Button Mushrooms just a slightly different strain of that species, which develops a thin layer of tan or coffee-color on its cap.
Hiking through the White Mountains of Arizona we came across these mushrooms growing near a stream.
I am originally from Madeira,Ohio. Currently I live outside of Custer, South Dakota in the middle of cattle country. The beautiful Black Hills are my playground and inspiration. Living here I have an endless supply of forest to play in, along with all the amazing animals and old barns to photograph. I grew up as an Air Force brat and traveled the world with my parents experiencing life. We spent countless hours exploring castles, art galleries and every church and monument we could find!
