Description
Frank Cunningham Meeker was the gentleman who homesteaded in 1887. This 278 acre cattle ranch, also known as Willow Creek, is located just outside of Custer, South Dakota.
Frank Meeker was a pony express rider with routes along the Cheyenne-Deadwood Stage line.
It is currently owned by the Forest Service and it a great place to enjoy the great outdoors. The Forest Service teamed up with the Black Hills Historic Preservation and Trust to preserve the ranch.
I can attest to the fact that this is a beautiful place to go hiking and snowshoeing!
The spring is the best time to go. There is a year round stream and the wild flowers overtake the valley floors.
